Gaining Weight while Sweating Excessively

There is a possibility that you have put on some weight if you are perspiring profusely. This poses two problems, that of excessive sweating which is very depressing in itself, and you have to work to get your weight back to normal as well. However, you do not need to be disheartened as these two conditions often occur together
and hence there are various options available for controlling and treating them.

Sweat Excessively and Gain Weight At The Same Time?

One reason for profuse perspiration and weight gain at the same time can be attributed to genetics. Studies have shown that a family history of excessive sweating leads to the same condition in the offsprings. If you experience these conditions and your family members too have had them, then it is most likely that your condition is due to heredity; or you might develop the condition if you still haven't.

Thyroid disorders are also linked to both excessive sweating and weight gain. The thyroid gland secretes hormones and is situated in the throat. Over-secretion of these hormones can lead to the mentioned conditions. When the gland starts functioning abnormally, it often gets enlarged and forms a bulging body in the neck. One of the first symptoms associated with an enlarged thyroid is a notable difficulty in swallowing food. When you start perspiring profusely, gain weight and find it difficult to swallow, it might be a serious issue, and you should seek prompt medical attention.

Your dietary habits can also lead to weight gain and abnormally excessive sweating. Foods that are oily, fried and fatty can lead to these conditions. Along with these, foods with too many spices can cause both weight gain and perspiration. If you have a high intake of beverages, like coffee and tea, that contain caffeine, or alcoholic beverages, you might develop these conditions. Your diet should be rich in fruits and fresh foods, and you will stay healthy.

In certain cases, when a patient is being treated for mental disorders by being administered morphine or large amounts of the hormone thyroxine, the might start developing these conditions, as these drugs are known to cause perspiration and weight gain. Also, middle-aged women experiencing menopause can gain weight rapidly. These women often feel very hot, with sudden rise in temperatures and shots of heat which lead to excessive sweating.

Once you pin-point the exact cause for your perspiration and weight problem, you can easily go through the list of possible treatments with your doctor and choose the most suitable for yourself.
